David McKinstry established Woodhaven in
1994 on Sandy Lake, one of the seven main lakes in the
Buckhorn area within the popular Kawartha Lakes District.
Immediately this comfortably intimate lodge on the western
shore of Sandy Lake became a popular retreat centre and
vacation destination for a diverse mix of guests. Golf,
horseback riding, tennis and antiquing are only minutes
away.

| Woodhaven Country Lodge
caters to small business retreats, special interest groups
and leisure vacation patrons. So much more than a lodge, Woodhaven provides
complimentary weekday mini-holidays to exhausted care givers,
breast cancer and AIDS patients, battered women and their
children, to name only a few. A favourite location for
spiritual/ yoga retreats, kayak/ canoe/ triathlon workshops,
and weddings, Woodhaven offers a place
for committees to congregate, bond and establish annual
planning objectives. Guests enjoy privacy as well as the
pleasure of meeting new and exciting people from the world
of arts, academia, film, journalism, etc. Conversations
around the Woodhaven dining room are fresh,
inspiring and down to earth. |
| Woodhaven's
large dining room easily converts into a wedding chapel
or a board room. Three large living rooms provide quiet
contemplative space for individuals or substitute as
a place for small group discussions by one of the three
fire places. Three suites have their own private decks
and hot tubs. From the enclosed porch overlooking the
lake, another large hot tub provides a great place for
small group gatherings after a cross-country ski (24
sets of skis are available free to guests), a moonlit
skate on the lake rink under the stars or in summer,
a late evening swim. The Lindalee Tracey Memorial Library
offers an extensive collection of over 2000 books on
a wide range of topics. Guests can shoot a game of pool,
watch satellite tv/movie channels (popcorn provided free)
from the comfort of their pillow-top beds, play bridge
or enjoy a quiet game of Scrabble by the panoramic lake
views throughout Woodhaven. During the
summer months the warm shallow waters of Sandy Lake provide
some of the best swimming anywhere in the Kawartha Lakes.
A canoe and paddleboat are available for guests. Children
also have the Cousins Cabin available for that overnight-at-camp
experience, complete with a fire pit for roasting marsh
mellows or making s'mores. |
