The Legend of Sandy Lake
According to the Ojibwa Indians, two teen lovers were canoeing across the lake one day, when they capsized and the young woman drowned.  To free her spirit, the devastated young man cut out her heart and threw it into the water, where it  was transformed into a huge, heart-shaped rock that still lies at the bottom.  On sunny days, this stone glows with a purplish hue.

Fun on Sandy Lake
Unlike other lakes in the Kawarthas, on sunny days, Sandy Lake is turquoise.  Even the fish taken from it have the same unique colouring.  It is the centre of our outdoor fun at Woodhaven.  In summer we:
Ÿ
Fish for bass and pickerel
Ÿ
Swim
Ÿ
Kayak
Ÿ
Canoe
Ÿ
Paddleboat

And, on-shore, kids can hike in the woods around the lake and camp overnight at Cousin’s Cabin, roasting marshmallow and making s’mores. In winter, there’s:
Ÿ
Skiing and hiking across and around the lake
Ÿ
Ice-skating
Ÿ
Snowshoeing

Within easy distance, you’ll find:
Ÿ
Cross-country skiing
